Serving You in Four Specialist Groups

BTE experts work as independent loss adjusters and consultants. They perform valuations, determine the causes for damage or loss, in addition to assessing the loss and costs involved; they act in a consultative capacity in remedying, repairing and preventing loss or damage.

Four groups have evolved in the BTE as the result of differing areas of work and the desire for an effective exchange of ideas and findings: Industrial engineering; civil engineering and building construction; business and economics; natural sciences and miscellaneous fields. Work is focussed on specialized topics, this leading to synergy and collaboration with the other groups. The groups meet regularly at local and regional conferences. A national conference takes place twice a year of the national association which hosts meetings of all the groups.

BTE experts form working groups which are devoted to establishing methodological fundamentals and furthering the state of the art. Some BTE members are the authors of leading reference works in their fields.

BTE members are also active in various professional and scientific associations, e.g. FUEDI (Fédération Européene des Unions Professionelles d’Experts en Dommage après Incendie et Risques Divers or European Federation of Loss Adjusting Experts), AHO (Ausschuß der Ingenieurverbände und Ingenieurkammern für die Honorarordnung e.V. or German Committee of Engineering Professional Associations for Fee Regulation), Loss Adjustment Institute (Institut für Sachverständigenwesen), in addition to professional associations of engineers and architects at the state (i.e. Länder) level. The results of these activities are conveyed to all BTE members and accordingly contributed by them to society at large and its institutions.

Assignments and projects requiring the expertise of various fields are tackled in interdisciplinary task forces.

Whenever major assessments and loss adjustment evaluations are required in Germany, in most cases you will find that experts or loss adjusters have been assigned to the task who are BTE members. BTE experts are considered to be highly qualified, reliable and trustworthy. Their respective office size or company location is immaterial in this connection. Their membership in the BTE documents their competence and experience.

Not just anyone can become a BTE expert: Only those individuals are considered for full BTE membership who are involved in independently rendering expertises and loss adjustment evaluations by virtue of their occupation and who are recognized as a leading professional by their peers. The BTE makes exacting demands of those seeking admission: They have to furnish proof of their qualification by having completed a degree in the respective field, in addition to demonstrating their aptitude by passing an entrance examination. Generally speaking, they are duly appointed and court-sworn for their respective field.

The results of these activities are conveyed to all BTE members and accordingly contributed by them to society at large and its institutions.
